We are proud to announce that the NASA SpaceApps Challenge 2015 will be held in Limassol the weekend 4-5 of April 2015, at the premises of the Cyprus University of Technology.

The event is taking place in Cyprus for the 3rd consecutive year, following two extremely successful events, in Limassol (Cyprus University of Technology) for 2013 and Nicosia (University of Cyprus) for 2014.

The organization is managed by an eager team of CUT engineering students, who are voluntarily contributing towards meeting the high standards required for an event hosted by NASA.

Cyta, through its Innovation & Idea Development Centre, is the strategic partner of the Competition. The event is supported by the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation.

The NASA Space Apps Challenge was initiated in 2012, in an attempt to bring together people of diverse scientific backgrounds, in order to address engineering issues through specific challenges. These concern NASA Space Exploration missions, which are currently active, in design state or aspiring to be implemented. The competition is a 2-day hackathon, which has gained an incredible momentum during the past 3 years and has managed to reach every part of the civilized world. For 2014, it was organized in 95 cities around the world with more than 8000 participants and 700 projects submitted. (2014.spaceappschallenge.org/)

For this year’s Limassol SpaceApps Challenge, and by taking into account the attendance of previous years, we are expecting more than 200 contestants, who will collaborate for 2 consecutive days to solve the Challenges pitched by NASA. The event will be widely promoted and it will be covered extensively by all the local media (please see links below for promotion examples from past years).

This year’s completion features a specific theme, “Women in Data”, which aspires to empower the presence of women in software coding and data handling.

The Limassol NASA SpaceApps Challenge 2015 is supported by the Cyprus University of Technology, the Cyprus Space Exploration Organization, the Womenpower-WE-ME Project and the Hack 66 community.
